Cardio workouts are probably already a part of your routine. Whether you just ran up two flights of stairs for a meeting or you take regular walks with your family after work, cardio workouts just seem a lot easier to fit into a busy schedule. Most people think that strength training has to be done at the gym with a set of dumbbells in front of a mirror. This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Here’s the scoop on strength training:

What is Strength Training?
Naturally, strength training does include lifting weights but there are so many other exercises that do not require weights and can be performed almost anywhere. Some of the best strength training exercises use the weight and resistance of your own body.  Pushups, plank, burpees, squats, and lunges target different muscles groups and can help with muscle strengthening and conditioning.

Why Is Strength Training Important?
Strength training not only creates muscle tone and greater strength, but it also benefits your health in many ways. Physically, strength training has been linked to weight management by putting the body into a calorie burning state even after the workout is complete.  It also oxygenates the muscles and brain and can boost energy levels.  Strength training has also been found to decrease disease rates including diabetes, arthritis and aids in bone health and can help prevent osteoporosis.

Who Should Strength Train?
Everyone should include strength training exercises to their workout regimen. However, sedentary individuals, particularly office workers should be more vigilant to include muscles strengthening exercises to their weekly workouts.
